Tenx9 Fear

So, the theme was put out and the people came. Last night at our Fear night we heard such extraordinary stories. It was an emotional roller coaster. It never ceases to amaze us how folks come to tell stories, to a roomful of strangers, and tell truths that are so often under the surface. Many many thanks to Paul, Naomhán, Seán, Áine, Emily, Lisa,Jason, Clare and Nuala. What a night.

We heard a story of being petrified when you're handed a baby that now, by adoption and law, is yours; we heard a story of being frightened of what your da and his soon-to-be-wife are going to say when they meet your new boyfriend; we heard a story of being frightened in your own home, a story that spoke of being born a fearless child and, through difficult life circumstances, learning to become a fearless adult; we heard a story of discovering letters in a drawer that scared the shit out of you; we heard the stories of how eight year olds fear for their eternal soul when they steal a penny; we heard of how fear can undermine relationships and how a pair of scissors may help; we heard a story of how telling a story of fear may have one motivation or another; we heard a story of how frightening it can be to face life, and to face death; and we heard a story about fear and loathing in the Lower Falls.

Many, many thanks to the folks who came and told, to the wonderful audience who are so warm in applause and listening and, as always, to the beautifuls working in setup and behind the bar at the Black Box.

We are at the stage where we unfortunately have to turn folks away from the door once we reach maximum capacity. We have no desire or plans to go to a bigger venue, so it's worthwhile coming along early! Next theme: Show and Tell. Bring along an item (or a photo of an item) and tell the true story about that item - when you got it; when you broke it; when you lost it; when you needed it; when you hated it; who gave it to you; who didn't give it to you; who you stole it from; why you stole it; you get the picture. June 17th, Show and Tell. 7.30pm, Black Box.

Newer:Show and Tell - story spaces left and invitation to ALL to bring something.Older:Tenx9 - Scundered. What an amazing night.
